ONAP4K8S for R6 is expected to have following features:

  • Support distributed applications
    • Placing the pieces of applications in various sites based on the intent (Geo-Distribution)
    • Placing some pieces of workloads in many sites (Geo-replication)
    • Connecting the pieces together to allow communication across distribution and replication entities.
    • Securing the communication across these sub-applications.
    • Enabling communication of user facing sub-application services from public users.
    • Enabling communication to external services from the sub-applications
    • Supporting various site scenarios
      • that have one public IP address.
      • that have multiple clusters with one public IP address.
      • Public sites (Cloud based K8S clusters) that have their own load balancers etc..
  • Support for logical clouds
    • Where each logical cloud spread across multiple sites.
    • A given site supporting multiple logical clouds.

We needed a real life use case that can test above features.

Current use cases vFirewall and EdgeXfoundry are good ones, but they are not distributed applications.

Hence we have chosen "Akraino ICN Distributed Analytics framework" as the integration test use case to test above features of ONAP.
