Change Management Program (Dublin Release)

Change Management Program (Dublin Release)

Overview

ONAP is a management system to manage the VNFs Service Providers need to run services for their customers.  The Service Providers need to maintain the VNFs over its lifecycle.  This will entail changes such as upgrading, configuration changes, migration, rightsizing, etc.  All of these actions are considered Change Management action and are key to ensuring the health of the VNFs and the services they support.  Providing robust and granular tools is critical for the operations staffs within the service providers so they can react to the ever changing environment of the clouds they operate.  As such, the broad area of Change Management needs to be divided into many different sub projects.

E2E Workflow Designer

In Release 2 (Beijing) new workflows needed to be done by development teams in SO.  This is not very scalable and introduces a large latency between the recognition of the need for a new work flow or change to an existing workflow and the delivery of that workflow.

To solve this problem WorkFlow Designer was introduced in Release 3 (Casablanca) so that Building Blocks could be designed in SO and then those building blocks could be assembled in SDC using the workflow designer tool.  This allows operators to create new workflows or make modifications to an existing workflow outside the development cycle.

Schedule Optimization with Automated Conflict Avoidance

The Service Provider environment is very large and very complex with many actions going on all the time.  It is important for the operators to schedule activity in such a way that it will not conflict with other activities.  This sub-project is help create and optimize the scheduling of operator actions on VNFs.

Traffic Migration

Traffic Migration is important for many Change Management operations.  There are lots of activities that will require the need to add an additional instance of a VNF(C) and then move traffic away from the old instance so that maintenance can be done on it before moving traffic back to that instance.  This action can be used for Software updates, Configuration Change and Scaling to name a few.

Traffic Migration will be built as a building block in WorkFlow Designer so that operators may use it as a tool when doing other activites.
